Awesome boyfriend of mine wants to convert to Whoism.
I plan on making a whole day where we watch Doctor Who. I will explain to him that the show has been going on since 1963. The show was canceled then brought back in 2005.
I will then explain that the Doctor regenerates, that there are eleven of them and there can only be 13.
I plan on having him watch new who only. I also plan on having him watch one- two episodes per doctor from the new series.
Here is what I plan on having him watch Nine- "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" This guy is studying history so this will be a great intro for him. WWII, Creepy children, Nine at his best. Jack won't be overwhelming with his crazy sexual advances towards everyone.
Ten- midnight because it is creepy and I like it. Not sure if I should have him watch The Unicorn and the Wasp.
I may actually have him watch "Utopia//The Sound of Drums"/Last of the Time Lords because i like them, Martha is at her best and frankly I think he will like the Master. I sure do. Feel free to suggest another episode.
Now Eleven I have a problem with. I only really like the dream one and the one where 11 is living in a flat. I could show him the final two episodes which I also like but I think he will just be confuses. What is a good 11 episode to show... everything is so continuing.
So... good choice? Keep in mind that A. I like what most of you hate and B. he has very smilier taste to mine.

Unicorn and Wasp may be a nice "Cheese Test" to see if he likes the taste of CheesyWho as there will be nice thick slabs of it complete with crackers when you go wading into the older Doctors.

Right.. still not sure what to do with 11 epsiodes. I may just skip 11 for the mean time.
Oh well, just be happy I manged to keep the boyfriend away from "the end of time part one" which was very close to watching.
Though Cliff is awesome (I think that is the reason why he wants to start watching the show) that epsiode is NOT a way to start watching Doctor Who. Even as a Rusty fan I say no.

Unicorn and the Wasp is one of the last times we see happy Ten, so it reminds me of older who, the four episodes especially, where the Doctor is happy and everyone is laughing. I miss the funny in who . I converted a few of my friends, and you are very right to think it depends on the person you are converting. With two of them I started at Utopia/SoD/LotTL and it worked really well. With another I started with The Christmas Invasion. I like the idea of The Doctor Dances n The Empty Child, for all the reasons you stated plus it really is the base for soooo much that follows, having both Jack and Rose (who never seem to go away....) The Eleven Episodes are trickier by far. (Wow, Newton we are actually in like 100% agreement here who would have thought? ) I looove The Lodger, but mebbe start with The Eleventh Hour as it's an intro to the entire era and if he likes it, heck make a point of catching him up, it's what I did, and nowadays we've a whole group that meets every Saturday to watch DW.

I am going to keep him away from wholive at the moment... because a. i want him to watch some doctor who first and B. our conversations.... are well... he will either be bored or he will get way too much into it. *shifty eyes*
Also, you manged to convert people by those three master stories? Hm.... I am thinking he will like it more than the unicorn epsiode.
Those it is cheesy and he would see who at it's best. Ah... i can't make up my mind!

Newton, I sure did, and no matter how bad they may seem in the cold light of the morning after, those really were good episodes, in so much as they were suspenseful, exciting and give you a good view of the overall picture. Honestly TinkerbellJesus!Doctor is no less of a let down than The Big Bang...I mean that wasn't even predestination paradox, just a bundle of crud when you look right into it (don't get me wrong I DID like it emotionally).
As for SimmBadManners!Master, well I do so love him, but the idea of a Benedict Cumberpatch has me really excited! The Master would be classy again!!!

I think Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords has improved over the years, if only by comparison to some of the big finales that came after it...(I liked Big Bang, though, despite it not making a whole lot of sense - so sue me ;D)
I do like Unicorn and the Wasp, though - like Merry said, it was Ten at his best, before the bad stuff started, and Donna was great in it, and just fun all round really.

Oh it was, it was. ;D I do have to admit that I'm no longer sure whether Rory is plastic or not, though, so that probably counts as a bit of a flaw... ;D

He can't be if the universe rebooted and he never got killed and remade as an Auton, even if people still have weird memories. At least that was what I thought. But it was kind of confusing...

Well, I don't _think_ he's plastic, but there's that element of doubt...you're right, it's the memories thing, the confusion between real memories and fake memories and stuff. Or it confuses me anyway, but I did like the whole thing very much indeed. It probably on the face of it didn't make much more sense than some of RTD's finales, but it didn't make sense with much more charm and style, imho, if you know what I mean... ;D

I think he HAS to be plastic, the Rory that wasn't plastic was dead, not just erased as Amy's parents were, and since they remembered the Doctor all that stuff did happen which means Rory is dead AND erased and this bloke, is plastic.

While I do ship him with my icon, I'm not sure the ship is well established enough to start giving it a special name mash. It's good to know I'm not alone in this ship though. (joke) I think he HAS to be plastic, the Rory that wasn't plastic was dead, not just erased as Amy's parents were, and since they remembered the Doctor all that stuff did happen which means Rory is dead AND erased and this bloke, is plastic. I think that it IS plastic!Rory, Rory who earned his reality, but when the world rebooted Amy remembered him into a real body. It's creepy in a way because it means that real Rory really has been utterly erased. Except, I think it's his soul in Plastic!Rory who is now real!Rory again so it's come full-circle and... now I'm confused.

I loved the part two but couldn't stand part one. I love the Master and I don't want my boyfriends first image of the Master being a super power villain which he is not! *is very touchy about her Master.* ... That c... sounds.... so wrong... but you get what I mean!
