SOooooo, i haven't watched Torchwood since the episode where Jack comes back from The Year that Wasn't, but while watching The Next Doctor with my littles today, saw an add for this new Torchwood miniseries: Children of Earth.
Admittedly, it looks interesting, what I was wondering is has it aired outside the US already? If so, is it worth reinvesting in Torchwood 9which seems to me tobe all sex and angst with precious little of anything outside of John Barrowman kissing loads of blokes)?
mm also if it is worth a look and has already aired, please no spoilers.

I believe it starts in the UK on Monday 06/07, and the five episodes are being shown over five nights. So, next week is Torchwood Week on BBC1, anyway... I shall probably watch it, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
I don't know, you know, I have this love/hate thing with the show. It's stupid, gun-toting oversexed rubbish most of the time, but it does have its moments, few and far between as they may be. If you haven't seen most of S2, you haven't seen the little, tiny glimpses of the 1890s-1900s-era Torchwood teams, which for me were the best of those "moment". I mean, I even wrote fic about them!

I want to watch it, however, due to Internet being poopy, I am just going to wait until it airs on the SPACE channel. Lots will be cut out, I will live, I dealt with heavily edit Anime shows when I was kid, I can handle some heavily edit Torchwood.
I will note though, Canadas censorship is pretty mild compared it America, they mostly just edit stuff out to fit in more commercials here in Canada. They do with DW and Eastenders.

Have any of you been watching the Torchwood audio plays? The first two were kind of meh, except for a cute Gwen & Ianto moment in "Golden Age." But the latest one, "Dead Line," had a Janto scene that made me cry. Yes, I'm a sap. Leave me alone.

TW: Children of Earth is airing on BBC America July 20-24th, and I am looking forward to it. It looks really scary/creepy.

It will be fun to watch on TV and look forward to watching every night, unless I am working.
I have learn to not have high hopes for any TV, you just get disappointed.
If I get to watch all five that would be great, if not, oh well, I will live, there will be repeats.

it does indeed look to be both, enough to peak my interest and, again, I cannot stand Torchwood, so that's saying a lot.

Have any of you been watching the Torchwood audio plays? Watching an audio you say? Sorry, couldn't resist. I listened to part of the first one (with the particle thingy that was supposed to turn the world into a black hole but didn't). I didn't finish listening. I was struck by how Jack really didn't know how to act on audio.

Ah, Barrowman and his variable acting... As someone once said, it doesn't matter if you're one note, as long as it's a good note. The problem with Torchwood as opposed to Who is that it seems hell-bent on forcing him to do all of the other notes, instead of the one he's good at. I really think that's the main problem with TWood - you've got a main character there who was perfectly likeable when introduced in Doctor Who, and yet insist on making him as unlikeable as possible, probably in some sort of misguided attempt to be "edgy" and "grown-up".

Well, that was an exciting first episode. Unfortunately, I was trying to watch it live and my computer died on me a few minutes to the end. Blast.

Wow. I thought that was very good, actually. I know some people were complaining about only getting 5 episodes - people such as John Barrowman - but so far I'm enjoying this format, even if it's a bit early to tell.
It bothers me more than it should that this episode was subtitled Day One. We already had a Day One! This will cause mass confusion!
Also, Torchwood isn't even trying to be top secret anymore, is it? If it ever was, I mean.

I get it next week on BBC america the torchwood week culminating in the DW easter special. hmm, i am excited to see it, as much as it pains me to be so.
JJ, I think you make an excellent point as to why Jack is likable, if not lovable in DW and so blasted irritating in TW.

OMG OMG Jack was stuck in a big block of concrete! Also, Torchwood isn't even trying to be top secret anymore, is it? If it ever was, I mean. I know what you mean. Yes, I know I'm not supposed to know about Torchwood, not even the United Nations knows. Now, everyone seems to instantly recognize them! Though, it is partially excusable, going by the numerous alien incursions recently in the Whoniverse, that the British public should know about an organisation set up to target alien life.

JJ, I think you make an excellent point as to why Jack is likable, if not lovable in DW and so blasted irritating in TW. The worst parts are when he's trying to be all hard-as-nails secret-agent-man type dude, shoving guns in people's faces and torturing prisoners and all of that dubious sort of stuff - Barrowman just can't do hard-man, yet the TWood scribes insist... I find his little throwaway remarks in DW about breaking the Master's neck and stuff a far more subtle and convincing way of conveying the fact that, you know, Jack jokes around and flirts with everyone, but underneath it all he's a bit of a dangerous character. And the really weird thing is, in a lot of cases it's the same writers - it's just something about TWood that makes them ditch the subtlety. Having said all of that - I am quite enjoying it, having watched the first two parts. Especially enjoying Ianto's ne'er-do-well family and Peter Capaldi as the weaselly civil servant who is pathetically grateful that the Prime Minister has picked _him_ to be the fallguy for the whole mess. And the aliens are genuinely intriguing and a bit scary, all the more so for being seen only through the creepy, possessed kids they are using are their mouthpieces. I fear, though, that when we do eventually see them, they can only be disappointing after all the build-up. One thing I'm not impressed with is the band of black-clad can't-shoot-straight conspiracy footsoldiers who are after Our Heroes. The berets are a different colour, but basically they're UIT, and you know how I feel about UIT. The thing with the bomb was a good idea, though.

According to DWM, they're going to be 'part CGI, part prosthetics, and part animatronic puppet' - anything that complex shoudln't be that much of a disappointment, surely?

The thing with the bomb was a good idea, though. * Yeah, except I thought that maybe after all their hard work of trying to kill Jack they should, you know, separate his various body parts rather than putting them all together in a bag for easy reattachment.
And that's one of those sentences I never thought I would type. All the Jack stuff in this episode had me torn between being amused and being horrified. Culminating in Unexpected Naked Jack, of course. But moving on, they blew up the Hub! I hope Myfanwy is all right.* How awesome was Gwen in the last episode? I've never been much of a Gwen fan before but now I think I'm starting to be one.
