I got mine after the star in the "Taurus" constellation. Aldebaran is also nicknamed "the bull's eye" due to it's placement in the constellation. That said, I don't relate to bovines in any way shape or form. My zodiac sign is Capricorn, and I've never had any experience with cattle. I just like star names is all, and "Aldebaran" happens to be my favorite. My story is kinda lame. Sorry. Hey Jjpor... is your last name O'Riley or O'Rourke then?

Well, I'm not many-named like some of you and until recently only went by my real name, except for back in the day on adwc, when I went by my uni login (I didn't know how you changed it to something fun), which was vvj5 - my Teaspoon name, because the original intention was to post my old fic, not write all the stuff I have. *cough*
(And that's v for my first name, v because I don't have a middle name, j for my surname and 5 because I started uni in 1995, so you can see my ancientness).
Lost Spook was the only one I chose for me. It's not obvious why, until I explain that I was joining the Spooks forum and wanted to have a Ruth Evershed related name, but this being the Spooks Forum all the obvious ones (Ruth, Ms Evershed, BonkersButBrilliant etc etc) had gone, so Lost Spook it was. It doesn't seem too common, so I use it on any forum now and look suitably haunted and mysterious.
*thinks* Drat, ruined the mysterious spectre bit already.

I've always found the phrase "hanging fire" evocative and somewhat poetic, which is probably I wrote it into the last reasonably good poem I ever wrote (ten years ago now). At some point when I started wanting a web domain and usernames not immediately obviously derived from my real name, I started using "hangingfire", and that's pretty much my handle almost everywhere on the internets now.

It's kind of embarassing, really: it's a nickname from toddlerhood that my father gave me. It's basically my real name in baby-talk. I started using it as an internet pseudonym because it was original and I wouldn't have to bother about anyone else using it.
My real surname is actually British.* Nobody's sure why, apparently. Something to do with an illegitimate child. No doubt, there was a sailor involved.
*The most common British surname, even. I don't think I need to tell you what that is.

Well, when I joined Narniafans 3 years ago the only usernames I had seen were the ones belonging to my siblings which were really long and geeky so I became gondoriannarniangirl (if you don't know what Gondor is don't worry, it's a Lord of the Rings thing...) after several months of typing that in every time I logged in I got tired of it and shortened it to Gondorgirl. Since then I've been Gondorgirl on practically every forum I've joined. If I'd been in a more creative mood though I would have thought of a Doctor Who name.

This has been related elsewhere but: This is a story that begins long ago, in my first year of uni, and it is also the story of why I am not allowed to drink coffee. It was a glorious Saturday afternoon, and I had decided, with my now room mates, to go adventuring off campus to... I think we went to the zoo? And to Wallmart... someone needed to buy a broom... this is not important. What is important is that I had not slept for some days previous, and was running on a certain caffeinated beverage which I am now banned from consuming, and, apparently, I was hell to travel with, and keep jibbering on about randomness (and considering how annoying my uncaffeinated jibber rants can be, I'm frankly amazed that I wasn't abandoned on the bus) Also necessary for understand this story is the fact that my wrist watch had given up the ghost some days earlier and, as a result, I was carrying around my venerable pink, mini-mouse alarm clock in my pocket. It was my very low-budget pocket watch. AS we travelled on the bus, a stranger asked me the time, and as I pulled out said alarm clock. And their reaction was the one which I got all throughout first year... "is that an alarm clock??? In your pocket???" And I, who was sleep-deprived and over-caffeinated (and somewhat of a stuttered at the best of times) proudly and memorably proclaimed: "No! It's, it's my Pocket in a Clocket! No, no, no... it's my Patch! My ClocketPatch!" To which my room mates to be were like "what???" LOL "No more coffee for you." And I was like... "Yeah, probably a good idea." This story answers soooo many questions I had about you still. Yet, I can also so see it happening as I've gotten to know you. You are one strange but amazing girl, CP. No wonder, I love chatting with you ever chance I get.

Well, I suppose if ever one else is doing, I might as well give into peer pressure and join in. Over the years, I've used many usernames on line. I wouldn't be surprised to have known some of you under these other aliases. The one I use most often in the Doctor Who fandom comes from a character I created for one of my first Doctor Who stories. 'Abigail Romana Tyler'. As I'm sure some of you can guess, I use to write a lot of Doctor/Rose fic, and this character was the daughter of the two. In fact, I have four stories written for her, and five additional plots, I never got around to. Eventually, I lost interest in writing ship-ish fic for this pairing. I mean, I occasionally do write stories for them, but not like I use to. I've branched out, since then. Still, I liked the name so much that I decided to keep using it. In fact, she has become my alter TIme Lady ego (no longer Rose/Doctor daughter but a whole new Time Lady persona I created). I actually started to write a collaboration piece with LadyD on lj Our lj: timeladys.livejournal.com/In the cartoon picture, I'm the one in yellow and reddish orange. I've sort of been working on original stories with Abby (with a whole backstory), but they are still in the works.

I think the origin of my name, like IMForeman's, is pretty obvious to you Whovians out there, but for those of you who don't know, the catchphrase of the Third Doctor was 'Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.' That phrase has been used countless times all over Doctor Who and in every parody I've ever seen. I just love it. I used to be Polarity-Reverser, but I just decided to go with this version for some reason.
Usually, though, I just go by my real name, Nic Coay. If you see that somewhere, it's more than likely me. But I've had tons of usernames for games and stuff. There was a time when I really enjoyed coming up with a new name, so it got very confusing.
TimeTraken (A play on Time Lord, referring to Ainley!Master as he was in a Traken body.) MasterOfTraken (Another reference to Ainley) Polarity-Reverser Space_Vagabond (Fourth Doctor reference, sometimes it was 'SpaceAge_Vagabond')
There were a bunch more but that's all I can remember.

You have good tastes in names. I like you, too. = ) H's are VERY unnecerrary... even in the dutch way of spelling it we do not use a 'H'. Really... besides words like hat, the, I see no use for them. Not even in the word 'What' the h is needed. 'Wat' spelled like 'wat' is perfectly fine and straightforward. Oh and don't get me started on 'S' being in the word Island ... who in their right mind that that was brilliant ide.... Ok I am ranting now. I am so sorry, I tend to go off and random rants... gets me trouble... like today in class.

Good. You spell it the way it should be spelled. I like you. Is this like how Sarah ought always to be spelled with an H or else you're a horrible, horrible person? *scratches head* apprently the RIGHT way to spell Nicolas is well Nicolas. Many people spell Nicholas. The 'H' as MY Nick claims is not neccesary and not suppose to be there. *shrugs* Nick has gone on some rants about this a few times. In Dutch we spell it Nicolaas, though I have seen it spelled Nikolaas. Even the Dutch people don't use the 'H' letter.

Yeah, island is a word of annoyance. But one I love. It's fun to tell kids to spell it 'iland' 'cause they don't know better. I had my little brother convinced for months as a kid that easy was spelled 'e-z.' These words are just fun.
I've seen someone spell it Nikolas, but never Nikolaas. That looks cool though.
