CLocket, I quite agree it fails to cover everything, for instance, as aforementioned, TimeCrash. grrrr. However, most of Who, as you pointed out, DW is full of unexplained bits, and contradictions, and such, I just tell myself you need a timelord brain to fully understand the weebly wobbliness.

Seriously, RTD, would it kill you to be nice to him for once? I think you may have discovered his One Weakness...being nice to Ten is like Kryptonite to RTD... I think Who can be set anywhere, anytime - I was just questioning the wisdom of remaking something like Talons; how can you top perfection? And, well, it isn't exactly the most politically correct thing to come out of the 70s-era BBC, is it? Seriously, I think the whole of Whodom dodged a bullet when the TVM-inspired series never got made. The heartbreaking line (and, yes, what happened to "one for everyday and one for best"?), well; I understand both viewpoints on it, but I still didn't like it. I started to write a post last night on my take on the Time War and the wibbly-wobblyness, which largely agrees with what Merry and Clocket have written, but also recognises that Magnus's questions are pretty good ones, and hard to answer without making a lot of stuff up that RTD and co obviously didn't see the need to invent themselves. Anyway, it kind of grew...I got carried away with the Time War part, and was still writing it at midnight. So, I finished it this morning, and posted it in the fanfic section, because, well, it's long.... I don't really know if I should have, but I thought, having written it...

Oh I identify jjpor, I find myself in that position much of the time. There are all sorts of posts I'm now willing to jettison despite all the time, effort, and eye self-abuse involved, but once in awhile I just have to post even though I'm cringing while doing so. Some bit at the back of my head is signalling a red alert and I don't know why yet, as if I screwed up in some way I'll only realize after it's "too late".
I'm anxious for any and all examination of the TW problems though, especially from you. I'd also like to thank merry and cp for their explanations, and especially cp for making the graph. That took some work, thanks!
It all comes down to that 1987-88 business for me. I don't expect DW not to be filled with small problems, it's just the huge ones I mind.

No prob Magnus, always happy to help (though, MS paint graphs don't really take much *work* lol) ANYWAY, back to topic, my ABSOLUTE favourite thing about the TVM was Eight's floffy hair. I was absolutely devastated when I learned that it was a wig.
Also, I'm amused by how tall McGann looks in the movie, or at least, how he gives the impression of being considerably taller than he is.
And finally, because this seems as relevant a place as any (and because I'm lazy and don't want to go digging around to resurrect the proper thread) the cottage from Withnail & I is up for sale. As was announced by my professor, quite randomly, in the middle of our faunals lab. And I was the only person in the class to know what on Earth she was talking about.
*giggles*
My friend was trying to identify a racoon's baculum when the announcement was made. For some reason this seems oddly appropriate. ;D
... McGann had floffy hair in that movie too... *pats*

Some bit at the back of my head is signalling a red alert and I don't know why yet, as if I screwed up in some way I'll only realize after it's "too late" Yeah, in my case, I have this tendency to go out with friends and/or workmates on a Friday and/or Saturday night, and consume certain beverages made from fermented grain in certain establishments, and then come home and post messages on certain websites...and then in the cold light of the next morning I think "I typed WHAT??!!" - in fact, I'm doing it right now! ;D Clocket, I read about the Withnail house getting sold - the article I saw seemed to think that they would get a pretty good price for it, and also was interesting because it asked various of the local residents for their perspectives on the film - actually, they seemed quite cool about it, which is not always a given with country folk here in the UK. On-topic: Yes, McGann is actually only a couple of inches or so taller than McCoy, maybe not even that. Apparently, they literally had him standing on boxes for the kissing scenes etc., because the actress playing Grace was quite tall...which is actually pretty funny from my point of view. Still, that thing about the shoes fitting perfectly is a killer line any Doctor could be proud of, I think. And, you know, I'll come out and admit that I really don't dislike Roberts!Master all that much, considering what an OTT performance it is and how little the character resembles the oldschool Who versions. Maybe it's because I sort of like Eric Roberts - I thought he was pretty good in The Dark Knight and Season 1 of Heroes. I may have a geektastic knowledge of quite a lot of Who trivia, folks, but that doesn't mean I have what you would call good taste. ;D And...well, I'm slightly scared to ask, but what is a raccoon's baculum?

Not terribly often, only once actually with whole fermented grains thing (and oh, wasn't that an interesting night), but... ah, yes, the sugar and caffeine demons have also been responsible for a fair number of... I'm going to stop talking now. I'm hyped up on sugar and have been watching far too much Buffy and I think I'm trying channel Giles or something and it's starting to weird me out. Apparently, they literally had him standing on boxes for the kissing scenes etc., I also like how they tilt all of the running hand-in-hand scenes to one side with the actors sort of crouch running. Still, that thing about the shoes fitting perfectly is a killer line any Doctor could be proud of, I think. Truly a classic moment of Whodom. And, you know, I'll come out and admit that I really don't dislike Roberts!Master all that much, considering what an OTT performance it is and how little the character resembles the oldschool Who versions. I was watching the Cable Guy earlier, and, guess who? And...well, I'm slightly scared to ask, but what is a raccoon's baculum? er, um, ah... wiki it. I believe the wikipedia article even has a picture of a raccoon's. (and it's a very distinctive shape for a racoon too. I was kind of boggled that my friend didn't identify it straight off. It's pretty much the ONLY bone I can identify to species without comparing) I'm kind of bad at the whole bone thing, like, I mistook a bear's rib for a racoon's skull.

Once a few years ago on a Blake's Seven board that has unfortunately gone under, but which I spent a lot of time on trying to argue over how long the Galactic War really was, that kind of thing, I found that I'd posted... "(*&^#%@#..." or something like that. When people made clear that they wondered what the hell I was talking about, I said I had in fact been "posting in tongues", and that they shouldn't interfere with my religious freedom of expression.

When people made clear that they wondered what the hell I was talking about, I said I had in fact been "posting in tongues", and that they shouldn't interfere with my religious freedom of expression. Electronic ideoglossia? I like it - I'll have to remember that one for future use... Reading some more of the plans the TVM makers had for their abortive series, I see that one of the remakes planned was of The Gunfighters, but "more historically accurate." Now, the Gunfighters has, well, charms of its own, and I'm sort of philosophically opposed to remakes on principle, but the Doctor visiting the Old West is an idea that has merit, I think. In a stetson. And a poncho like Clint's... And lots of weird closeups on people's squinty eyes. Do you think Murray Gold can do that Morricone-style "Wa-waa-waaaah" stuff? It'd be a two-parter of course: "A Fistful of Daleks"/"For a Few Daleks More". As regards baculums (baculi?), Clocket... Ah. Yes. I see.
