Out of boredom (where does any great discovery come from?) I decided to guesstimate how many words worth of fanfic is on the teaspoon.
The archive currently hosts 16823 stories and 2277 authors.
That works outs to roughly 7.5 stories per an author.
Then, I selected a random group of twenty stories and took their average word count. From that, the average story on the teaspoon is approximately 4443 words long.
Now, multiplying that by 16823... that is, bearing in mind a whacking great margin of error;
Seventy-four MILLION, seven-hundred and forty-six THOUSAND, eight-hundred and thirty-two words of Whofic.
The average published novel has between 100,000- 200,000 words in it. Give or take. Divide that out and you get the equivalent of roughly 500 novels.
And that's just on ONE archive, and there are more stories being added all the time. It's pretty darn mind-boggling when you think about it.
If you're curious I also worked out that Calufrax (have you heard of Calufrax? On LJ? If not you should get over there stat!). Well, anyway, Calufrax. They currently rec between 14-21 fics a week. If posting to the teaspoon suddenly stopped, right now, it would, at the current rate of reccing, take 18 and a half years for every story on the spoon to be recced.
The breakdown of number of stories to each era is as follows
One: 246 Two: 178 Three: 233 Four: 592 Five: 642 Six: 239 Seven: 303 Eight: 573 Nine: 3011 Ten: 8622
Multi-era: 1413 Other era: 380 Other Doctors: 376
Torchwood: 2359 Sarah-Jane Adventures: 144
The moral of this story? We need more fic for Two and Sarah-Jane STAT!

Cor blimey, that's quite a lot. (I've been looking for an excuse to say 'cor blimey' for a while.)

Cor blimey! That's a great phrase. You need no excuse to say it.

I think I would like Two more if it were possible to view his Dead Serials.

One of those Two Teaspoon stories is mine, unless they counted it as part of a larger multi-Doctor story. Four pops into that chapter too unexpectedly. I can't believe how many Torchwood stories there are.

Pft, the Torchwood stories are all Jack/Ianto. I know this without even looking. Well the first two pages alone I found only one Janto story. Mostly Ten Doctor/Torchwood Series 4 like stories.

Urg. Though, apparently apparently the second season was better than the first so perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to judge, but what I saw of the first season turned me right off. Well... Random Shoes wasn't bad...
The room mate is expressing curiousity so I might end up watching season two after all...
*
heh, one of those Jack/Ianto fics belongs to me, though it's really more about the hand-in-a-jar and Sutekh.... (and rather complete crack from start to end)

Though, in redemption, one of those Two stories is my fault as well. Though... as far as crack goes, it's not much better.

I'm no crazy fan girl for Torchwood but it's keeping me busy since all my shows are over for the summer, or the shows I missed while travelings are not coming to DVD until September. I found the first half of Torchwood Season 1 to be pretty bad to mid season which was OK. The last 4/5 Episodes I liked the most. Thought the season final was great until the last 15 minutes. Which sucked so badly and ruined it for me.
On the third episode of Season 2. The secound episode is REALLY bad but the I enjoyed the first episode and the thirds. I find Torchwood stories that deal with the past have the best stories.
Random Shoes was a great story. The best I believe.

No, but I can be shipped in a big blue box, if one is provided.
My first Torchwood episode was the sex alien one. Yeah, that whole episode (/Torchwood itself) was just an excuse to broadcast pr0n.
I didn't really bother with it after that. After hearing that the second series was better, I kind of watched it, but just gave up due to not caring enough to see it.
During this Specials Year, I plan on catching up on my Classic and/or discovering other fandoms. Only as a last resort will I turn to Torchwood.

Not all the Torchwood fic is Ianto/Jack, but a lot is - look, the actual series is practically slashfic to begin with, so at least the ficcers are being true to the source material!
I tried to write some retro-Torchwood fic, set in 1907-08, and based on the early-20th-Century characters featured in Season Two - I'm not really sure how successful it was. It didn't exactly advance the state of the art, shall we say, and I never actually finished one of the stories...
People say Two is hard to write, apparently, so that might explain the lack of fic for him.

I think I actually saw that episode. I can't remember it too well, though.
Edit: Ah, Torchwood. The ad on this page is Gay Town.

People say Two is hard to write, apparently, so that might explain the lack of fic for him. I think it's the lack of reference points. So few of his episodes survive; I think there are only six complete arcs, and that's including the one with the restored-by-animation episodes. His entire first season is pretty much gone... *is sad for two* Edit: Ah, Torchwood. The ad on this page is Gay Town. lol

Yeah - somebody needs to invent a time machine, go back to 1967 or so and show the BBC execs how much money they'd be able to make from DVD sales 40 years hence if they'd just not erase those tapes... The restored version of "The Invasion" with the animated episodes is very cool, though - I think the world needs more Who cartoons to be honest. Troughton is possibly the flat-out best actor ever to play the Doctor (if it's not him it's either Eccleston or Tennant, if I'm honest), and he had some great companions, so it's a real tragedy how little of that stuff remains. As far as Torchwood fic goes, it might be interesting to write about the pre-Doomsday Torchwood, really playing up the ruthlessness and the anti-heroism; kind of like the X-files told from the POV of the baddies.
