Magnusgreel, thank you. FINALLY someone gets it. Are you a Doctor When-refugee as well, or...?

Magnusgreel, thank you. FINALLY someone gets it. Are you a Doctor When-refugee as well, or...? I hate to say this, aldebaran, especially so soon after having been told that I get it, but suddenly I don't get it, that last bit. I am probably many different kinds of refugees, but... is Dr When just Dr Who? No, a fan group maybe?

Doctor When is a Doctor Who RP site I used to go onto before I was told I (and I quote) "broke the fourth wall too often" and that I was "using too much dialog in my posts". (It's rubbish, I know.) So I got pissed, stole the Admin's TARDIS and came here.

Oh... I've never played a RPG! Two people at different times have tried to explain them to me, but no dice. I've experienced enough fan stick-to-the-rules-or-you're-evil, missing-forest-for-trees behavior within other fan circles.

I've done it a few times, but only in the most informal, random ways imaginable... never with *rules* or anything.

It's much better to do informal joint-story fanfics rather than join an RP site. It's like a black hole. Once you're in, it consumes your life and you lose self-confidence.
At least... that's how it was for me. Maybe not all sites are like that.
Thw Whovians on Doctor When were really weird too. Like, late at night, they'd all talk about stuff they did when they were drunk and the Admin would go on these crazy posting rants in the C-box. She'd type so fast that none of the rest of us had a chance to say anything. And it was really stupid stuff too, like... extreme hyperactive randomness... which is fun, but not if you can't partake in it.
But, it's how I found this site, so... I can't complain.

Your admin asks: RPG board, Y/N? With absolutely no rules, naturally. Because I just got this picture in my mind of us all going mad with the characters and writing what amounts to crack!fic. Which sounds like jolly good fun! xD

Yep. I like it. This is NOT an RPG board. By any means.

Oh dear... what have I done? This is not the message I was trying to send at ALL. *stands on top of TARDIS* RPG sites kill your free will! I'm warning you!

*tosses jellybabies at Aldy*
I think what Kit is suggesting is less an RPG and more a place where we can do interactive crack rants. Though... perhaps, given your experience, it might be best not to mess with a good thing and just keep DbyA the way it is.

I dunno. I'm just worried is all. I mean, I can see how it CAN work... I just don't want to see this wonderful site go down the toilet for a stupid RPG site which thousands of already exist.
You don't think that'll happen, do you?

I dunno. I don't have a TARDIS (alas!) but I doubt it. The people on here aren't jerks or overly obsessed with rules or anything. I've been on sites which incorporate RPGs with regular function and they seemed to work pretty well.
You never can tell of course.
Though... I know on the board in The Place That Shall Not Be Named *coughneopetscough* We all burst into spontanous roleplay mode every once and awhile. Based on that... and the level of randomness here versus there, I'd say if we *did* do roleplays they'd consist of Cliff the Dalek running around exterminating everyone, LadyD doing Timey-Wimey stuff, and me randomly firing off my jellybaby gun... XD

Now THAT sounds like fun! The last RPG site I was on NEVER would have allowed a Jelly Baby Gun! Yes... I think I get it now. Allright. Let's do it. Thank you, Clocket. You've restored my spirits! *hugs*

Not allowed a jelly baby gun???
*wanders off in confusion*
But WHAT would be the point of that? Honestly.
Some people.

It's because some people are too "sophisticated" for imagination.

Thank you, Clocket, for calming Aldebaran with his phobia of RPGs. Honestly, I've never even been on one. I used to try at The Same Place That Shall Not Be Mentioned, but those were always crack-filled fun (well, as long as you were doing it with friends).
But see the A Poll thread for more on this topic.
