Let's all take a moment to remember Kate O'Mara, the actress who played the Rani, who died on March 30th, 2014.

Oh, I had no idea. A good actress and a character who ought to have made more appearances.

Very sad news. I don't think either of the stories she appeared in (we speak not of Dimensions in Time!) was among the best of original series Who, but the Rani was a great character with a lot of potential, and played to perfection by O'Mara. Very interesting obituary here - a woman of possibly hidden depths but with real tragedy towards the end of her life: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2014/mar/30/kate-omara

That's horrible about her son. I agree that neither of the stories were that amazing (although Mark of the Rani is heaps better than Time and the Rani), but the character was awesome enough to deserve a return in a better story (maybe if Who hadn't been cancelled in '89...).

I agree - "Mark" is definitely better than "Time" by a country mile, and is actually one that's grown on me a lot since I revisited Six's stories having not watched any of them for quite a while. It's got some good performances too. I would have liked to see the Rani get another, better story later on, possibly a rematch with Seven.
