I don't mind Moffat and refuse to pass judgment. Also, I watched part of Robot and can now safely say that Four has found a place among my favorite Doctors. Now, I'm gonna go find more of his stuff.

Watch ALL of Robot Cadet! (lol, I just typed Clocket, this is a definite thing now. XD ) It's probably the only four ep I may still have on my hard-drive, as I love to hate the effects in parts three and four, which I can only describe as "Special."

I don't Moffat and refuse to pass judgment. I absolutely never Moffat. I'm trying to imagine what would be involved in that activity... And while I'd never want to interfere with anyone's enjoyment of anything, Moffat's just manipulative and commercial to me. He makes me appreciate RTD more (!!!)... at least he seemed personally invested, even if he may have felt he was making DW for his earlier child self. This was a welcome thread, wasn't it? Welcome. Doctor Four was a sort of savior for me. He gave me permission to be an "alien" and like it, in a conformist society.

Ok, I left out a word there...fixed it. And I would watch all of it, Aqua, but I could only find bits and pieces.

I have to say, I prefered the scripting for Nine and Ten but I still think The Moff is Quite good. Has anyone else seen Sherlock? It's a tv show about Guess who but it's set in modern times and he was the main writer on it and it's really good. I loved robot try and find the rest of it, cadet!

The special effects in Robot are so very amusing. It's all King Kong meets Clearly Cardboard Robot. The whole K-2 / K-9 thing confused me to no end at first and I'm still not sure if that was deliberate (it couldn't have been? I mean, it couldn't...) but I'm sure fanon has an explanation.
The only thing that bothered me with it as a story is how linked everything was at that point. I mean, as a regeneration story of course its linked, but the inter-story linkage in 3's last season and 4's first is just insane. It's individual serials, but they all follow into each other so that the lines blur. Sort off like in the early B&W days (or in the current days, though not as extreme).
Anyway, it confused me when I was first getting into Classic Who, but then I saw watched 3 and watched 4 in order and all made sense
---
Next topic,
Let's none of us "Moff" anyone rashly, but let's all of us agree that anyone who does wish to "Moff" should have the right to do so. I do not "Moff" myself, but I will stand firm against the forces of Internets, Censors, and friends to preserve your right to "Moff" whenever and wherever you see fit.
---
And moving on...
I might risk alienation here, but I do actually believe that Moffat does have genius in him, however, I also think that every genius carries the seed of their own destruction. I think that he needs an editor and someone honest to discuss his ideas with in order to give best results. I'm pretty sure he has this with Sherlock since the series is - as far as I know - co-written.
Doctor Who on the other hand...
He's not the worst writer the show's ever had. I'm not certain he's even the worst producer (his plotlines are questionable, but at least he isn't slapping question marks on everything... though there was The Question, so... but no Coat. That's always a point right?). He's not the best either, but I think he's going to go down as one of the more memorable writers.
You can't please everyone, and while he might not please me personally he is still pleasing a great deal of people.
I wish he'd stop it with the edgy plot twists and inexplicable timey-wimey though. It's started straying into Lost territory.

I doubt you'll be alienated, Clocket, as most people seem to like him very much indeed. Anyway, I wasn't trying to start a debate; I just stated that I didn't think he was a genius. *shrug* ;D
PS. I'm not an RTD-fan, either, so I'm a Very Special Unicorn in fandom.

Welcome to DbyA! Four is awesome. I also still remain a fan of Moffat's work, despite my occasional little niggles with his stuff. I don't know if you're available for DW Live, our biweekly watch along of (mostly) Classic Who, but if you are, be sure to stop by! It's at 9 pm EST on Saturday nights, so...I guess that would be about 11 am Sunday morning where you are.

What I love best about Robot, (other than that it's a post regeneration story, I always love those) is the excessive use of green screen. Particularly the fact that the robot is just reflective enough that flat places on it pick up the reflection of the screen and then fade out because the camera can't tell the difference between the reflected green on the robot and the wall behind. Also that really epic use of no less than 3, count them THREE layers of green screening in the scene where the robot sets SJ down on the roof of that house. The chimney she's hugging isn't really there, you can see the edges around her hands! XD
I'm with Clocket in support of Moffat. Yes, Sherlock was co created by Moffat and Gratis, but the actual episodes of lat have been credited to other writers entirely, although I'm sure those two are still heavily involved.

Evil unicorns? (I know we get off-topic but I can't believe you got THAT off-topic!) I haven't seen the later episodes of Sherlock because I'm watching them on DVD with a friend who only comes up here every few months but the early ones are defintely moff and gratis.I will try to drop by for one of the DW lives (pun fully intended)

How about a demented stoat riding a heroic zombie-fighting vigilante unicorn?

I should get ''Evil Unicorn'' as my DbyA title, methinks.

Oh yes! That would be a simply grand title to have. It makes me think of the one in The Mind Robber, though, not Ten's version. But I also love that one, I mean compare the two... modern boring effects or a brown pony filmed in the middle of the night completely covered up in all the white makeup they could possibly find? Oh yeahhh... the latter, that's Our Show, the Genuine Article.

You mean they couldn't even come up with a white pony? that's strangely adorable.

How about a demented stoat riding a heroic zombie-fighting vigilante unicorn? Are you offering them to us? I'll take three in assorted colors, please. Maggadin, whatever an evil unicorn is, I guess I'm one too. Strange, since I usually associate the unicorn with the overly precious. Moffatt is talented. I just think he uses it for evil.... Maybe a Moffatt script produced by RTD is a good combination, just based on Empty Child. It actually seemed like Doctor Who, and perhaps his fairy-tale obsession was moderated and kept within SF territory, just barely. But then, Blink's just magical to me.

Okay. Firstly, what on earth is RTD? I don't like the way that moff started turning dw into a soap opera in season 6 (as me and my dw-loving friends refer to it) but loved the curse of the black spot and the dream lord. Love the demented stoat/unicorn idea!

Robot's ace - I don't know if it's that highly regarded by fandom as a whole, but I find nowadays it's actually one of my favourite Four stories. Maybe because it has the Brig and Benton in it (like Zygons!) and Tom Baker's just great from the get-go. I wonder if it'd be a good story for getting new fans interested in old-Who? I think I agree pretty much wholly with Clocket's view on Moffat, and I'd add that I think RTD probably did play that much-needed role of editor/sounding board in his earlier, very very good, work for Who (as Mark Gatiss probably does in Sherlock - although Moffat has only written two stories for that in a three-year period, so I think he's also a writer for whom quality doesn't always go with quantity). That said, I'm still pretty happy with most of Eleven-Who and hoping S7 can get back to the highs of S5 and (some of) S6. That said, I do admire and somewhat envy the way Magnus and Maggadin manage to remain above the NuWho fray - I salute you, evil unicorns!
