It's bittersweet watching these, knowing that it is the last series and why it's the last series. Still, I'm giggling because it's that kind of a show. Gita and Haresh are hilarious as usual: "How many comedy headmasters does it take to screw in a light bulb?" and Clyde acting as baby sitter is the funniest thing ever: "This is Sid the Sleeve!" "This is grass! Do you like grass? Cows like grass. Cows go MOO! Cows make milk. You like milk. Cows also make steak. I like steak." "Oven chips are the work of evil kitchen dwelling goblins."
Oh Clyde and he even got his action hero bit in.
I also enjoyed Professor River's pretend zapping things with her lipstick.
Then end made me a bit sad though. Sarah-Jane seems to have a knack for picking up genetically engineered alien teenagers. It looks like they were were going to rebuild the cast now that Luke's gone off to college to keep the show on.

"Bittersweet" sums up the feeling I had watching this very nicely indeed.
*I thought this was a very watchable story - maybe not SJA at its best, but not bad by any means. I think, though, that watching what would normally be just one of the "filler" stories of a full season while acutely aware that...well, this is it for the show - only two more stories to score another hit...
Not that that's really the point. I think Lis Sladen was on top form in this one - she really sells the lines and brings a lot of humanity and compassion to them. You can believe Sarah is somebody whose horizons were expanded further than just about anybody else's on the planet, back in her time with the Doctor. I found myself almost unconsciously examining her for signs of illness and couldn't see any, which is surely only a tribute to her professionalism and determination.
The supporting cast as great as ever - I'm sorry to be seeing the back of Clyde and Rani and Gita and Haresh and the rest, because they're all magnificient. If there's any justice (and if he wanted to do it), NuWho should snap up Daniel Anthony as a full-time companion, like, yesterday. I'm serious. Loved the bit with Clyde entertaining the baby. ;D
Okay, to get fanw*nky about it - who or what are the Captain and his human sidekick (what do we call him? The Shopkeeper, is it?). "Servants of the universe", according to the guy. I think it was johne who suggested the parrot is one or other of the Guardians, and I wouldn't disagree at all. Quite the opposite. Maybe the White Guardian, if only because the Trickster definitely, definitely is the Black Guardian (in my head, anyway - if there's really any difference between the two) - he stands for chaos and disorder while the Captain and friend seem to want to make things run smoothly. Hmm yes - the parrot is the White Guardian and the Shopkeeper is some late-surviving Time Lord who acts as his agent. The Monk? A future Doctor? Somebody we've never heard of? Answers on a post card, please...
Next week's looks like a good one, not least because Clyde is centre stage. Where he should be! ;D*
