Don't get me wrong, it's not that Adric's "intensity" was anything like a swan-song or Shakespearian lament or even a compelling whimper. It was more akin to that flicker of brighter light you get from a failing bulb right before the pathetic cheap-brand filaments give way and the lamp goes out and you have to go rummaging around in the cupboard for wherever it was you stashed that new package of bulbs, wishing it could have stayed brighter like that the rest of the time you had it instead of being such a flickering, wimpy "I'm in a subway" lightbulb the rest of its tenure and swearing to yourself that next time you'll pay more for the better brand so it'll be bright and steady most of the time like the ones from that Doctor Brand.
Uh.
Which means, I think, that it was definitely still pathetic. It was just less pathetic than expected. Sort of. We found the broken Math Star at the end credits weirdly amusing and a bit of a relief, rather than having it bring around any level of pathos.

Lol Prim, that was sounding suspiciously (but commendably) like a Douglas Addams quote for a minute there.
Doctor Brand light bulbs!? I'd buy them!

Shocking admission, I know, but I don't really rate Earthshock as highly as a lot of fans. Adric's demise mildly amused me, if anything. ;D So... part 5 was your favorite, then? Oh, by far. ;D Don't get me wrong, it's not that Adric's "intensity" was anything like a swan-song or Shakespearian lament or even a compelling whimper. And I don't think I could possibly hope to put it better than that!

I am in happy possession of the Caves of Androzani DVD and commentary. It's not so excellent as the Warriors of the Deep commentary (which is, in fact, the only good thing about Warriors of the Deep) but it is good fun. I like PD mourning how the best acting of his career is overshadowed by Peri's.... assets... and how turning into Colin Baker is surely a fate worse than death. (Though, Colin being a decent actor, I think it's really just that coat and the writers making it a fate worse than death. And Peri's accent. I... still do not understand how Peri accent is supposed to be American. I just don't) As to Earthshock. I don't rate it overly highly either. I've watched it... twice I think? And been thoroughly disappointed each time. Maybe if I'd been watching it when it aired without the giant spoiler of the ending the shock of having a full time companion get offed without warning would've done something. As is, I'm just like: "Boring, boring, dull, dull, and now Adric is dead, except not really because he comes back old and mad in the audio adventures"

Thanks for that little spoiler there Clocket. :/ ...Not that I'd probably bother to listen to an audio that I knew to contain Adric... Also, wow. I've just noticed that my phone corrected light bulbs to nightclubs in my prior posting. I have fixed it now, but just wow. That's a whole different market. Pretend my icon's from Saturday Night Fever instead of a decidedly one-sided game of Twister and that might well be how I'd imagine that'd look.

I have to admit I would likely only pick up such an audio out of morbid curiosity myself. And Doctor Brand night clubs... well, y'know there could be something in that. An entire chain of nightclubs, each one with a theme for a Doctor, perhaps. I'm not sure I would dare set foot in Six's nightclub, but Two's would be a hoot.

Stay out of the Dalek clubs, though - they get a bit rowdy towards the end of the evening. I'd heard that about Adric and the audios, and all I can say is that's one of the bits of the expanded Whoniverse I choose to regard as hopelessly non-"canon", insofar as Who even has canon. Ingrid Pitt's surely the other good thing about Warriors of the Deep...kind of. Davison gives good, if occasionally somewhat disreputable, commentary, though. Regarding Peri's accent, all I can think of is that the poor woman suffered one of those very specific brain injuries that suddenly makes you start talking like a South African...or in her case, like nothing on Earth. As for Baker, C. and fates worse than death, I think he's currently undergoing one of those himself: www.kasterborous.com/2012/11/colin-baker-in-non-denial-jungle-storm/

Wha....? I'd never heard of the show in question, so I'm dealing with the dual bafflement that such a thing exists and is (apparently) popular...and the thought of Colin in the middle of it. Good heavens... please don't die down there, Colin. 0.0
Also, yes! Ingrid ftw...kind of nice to have her get a role where her ..er....generous attributes were not the focus too. I still like her best in Time Monster, though, she and Delgado must have had a blast.

Wha....? I'd never heard of the show in question I recall that JJ wrote a ficlet for It Will Come For Your Children based on the show in question, and you added it to the series. That must have been very confusing for you. ;D (Mitch Benn was singing about Colin on the Now Show on Friday night. Including the inevitable comparison to Vengeance on Varos).

Oh, the bitter irony... Scary thing is, Vengeance on Varos is starting to look remarkably prescient about some aspects of British comtemporary pop culture and public life, if not the gruesome details. If Our Col takes the opportunity to do for any of his fellow contestants via acid bath/poisoned vine (with a Bond-quip afterwards, of course), I don't think anybody will hold it against him. And apologies, Prim, for exposing your hitherto unsullied consciousness to knowledge of this stuff. I feel vaguely guilty (although, as johne points out, not my first effort in that regard. )

Your first effort at sullification of the innocent bystanders, or your first effort at feeling vaguely guilty?
