HAPPY BIRTHDAY MERRY AND KIT! « Result #2 Today at 4:02am »
Merry: You are awesome, funny, and a damned good writer. I hope you have a good one.
Kit: None of us would be here if it weren't for you. If you're reading this, DbyA says happy birthday, and thanks you for contributing to the founding of this forum.
Ten is totally just begging for a shag right here. Yes, I went there. But they went there first. Man oh man. He's fallen so far. I'm kind of hoping the Master gives him a smack right after the clip ends... or a kiss...
Teh Slash, Is Epic
Also, one of my lj predictions has come true: "Ten will at some point be tied up" And there he is, all trussed up in the Hannibal Lector harness... I am having bad thoughts. Bad fangirl. This forum is family friendly!
...but... did anyone else substitute Daddy for TARDIS in their mind? Or am I just derranged...
Er... I will stop now...
The fact that everyone involved in this production CLEARLY ships this pairing, and has pretty much said so in a public forum, amuses me deeply. Or, to quote the Rusty: SOULMATES!

Re: WTF Dreams « Result #12 Yesterday at 11:41pm »
I had a good one wherein I was Eleven a few days back, and I tried to post it, but the internet timed out and now I don't remember.
However I did have two other amusing dreams:
On Sunday morning my mother knocking on my door to wake me up for church, but I'd been dreaming that I was the Master, and then I got the tEoT part one mixed up with reality and decided that I didn't have to wake up because I'd turned everyone into the Master, so therefore my mother was the Master, and that meant I didn't have to wake up, and wasn't that clever of me? (I did wake up, and it was a good sermon too)
Then, this morning, I had another dream. This one wasn't exactly DW-related, but it was totally predictable, seeing as how I just marathoned the first series of Life on Mars.
Yes, I dreamed that I was Sam. And I thought my alarm clock was the life support machine trying to drag me back to consciousness. It was surreal.
IDK the Canadian mint pulls these sorts of stunts all the time. You should see the random designs we get on our quarters.
My mom collects those. Well the ones you get in your change, she doesn't go off buying those sets. I often carry quarters around so when i find a nice one say, at work, i will do a little swap.

Re: Eleven's look and personality « Result #17 Yesterday at 9:15pm »
Personally, I think that Ten was closed off. He reminds me of a cross between Four and Seven, swaying between lovable bohemian and scheming sociopath. With that template in mind, I predict that Eleven will be a cross between Five and Eight; a dapper, subdued, amnesiac with a tenancy to randomly kiss people.
(hey, from what we've seen of Moffat so far, you KNOW he's still going to be kissing people)

I think it's because Benton's actor moved to the states and the plays are produced in the UK. However, if you want to watch some Benton-based awesomeness, he's got several short films on his website which he made with various kids from the a local elementary school. They're kind of the most adorable thing ever.

Welcome aboard Mat!
I think Prim makes a good point regarding the actors - it's only natural for them to put a lot of themselves into the part, especially if it's one they're going to be playing long term. At the same time, I think a more introverted, less friendly Doctor might make a nice change of pace from Ten; we don't want all of our Doctors to be the same, surely? What worries me is that the new production team won't want to tinker with what seems at the moment to be a winning formula for NuWho, and therefore might not adopt the sort of "new broom" attitude that some sections of fandom are hoping for in Moffat and Eleven, even as others are panicking at the very idea.
I think at this stage Eleven, and indeed Moffat, are all things to all people - every one of the many different parts of fandom are hoping that their vision will be the way of the future, but we won't know until Season 5 starts who was right, if indeed anybody was...

I got on a lot better with this (on iplayer until Saturday) than I did with The End of Time, Part 1. Though that was probably down to the presence of Pauline 'Samantha Briggs' Collins and Peter 'Steven Taylor' Purves, reminiscing about their time on the show. It made me sad, though, that barring a miracle or someone with a lot more money than I have spending it on animation, we won't get a Faceless Ones DVD with a Frazer Hines / Anneke Wills / Pauline Collins commentary track.

Welcome aboard! New blood, as they say...
Hmm, that came out sounding a bit sinister, didn't it?
I've sort of come at it all from the opposite direction from some others - I was into the old series before the new one started, and so naturally started watching it - why wouldn't I? So if some of my comments about New Who seem a bit harsh at times, it's because I'm an embittered supporter of the days when it were all quarries and bubblewrap; people are remarkably understanding about it!
Oh... wow. I would LOVE this. Seriously. And add in every geriatric Who character and former companion we can scrape up for cameos while we're at it!
One former-companions cameo that I'd like to see is a coffee morning at Sarah's house in SJA. With, obviously, as many former companions as possible attending. Bonus points for including ones like Jamie or Peri who were last seen in completely different time periods

Cheese _and_ ham *, although if you put cheese and ham in front of the Master in that mood it'd last about five seconds and then he'd eat you as well... I don't honestly think you could call it a plot - some stuff happened, and then some more stuff happened and then yet more stuff happened, and each bit of stuff was crazier and more bewildering than the one that came before, and at no point were we really told why any of it was happening. Let's hope it all becomes clear in Pt 2...or not...
The acting was pretty decent all round - Tennant was great, so was Simm once you accepted that he was going to be going as OTT as possible (which is an artform in itself). Cribbins continues to be the Clyde of NuWho, if you know what I mean, and Donna was great, what we saw of her. And the craziness was kind of compelling in and of itself - I'm desperate to see Pt 2 now just to see if it can all be tied up in a satisfactory manner (at the moment, I'm guessing not, but I'm willing to be surprised).
And Time Lords! I don't care about the Phantom Menace CGI - as Clocket said, they had the hats and that at the end of the day is all that matters. And I reckon the spittin' mad 007 could make a pretty decent baddie, provided he isn't completely sidelined by all the...stuff...*
Re: Wilf + Brig team (UNIT) on an adventure? « Result #26 Yesterday at 7:04pm »
Er... I disagree with the cameos idea, but a i would love story where the unit team somehow end up meeting each during a crisis. Beton, Yates, Brig, Jo? As they are trying to save the day and find the doctor, Wilf comes in and is all "hi, I'm Wilf, I'm awesome and can totally help you out".
Re: The Companion Chronicle « Result #27 Yesterday at 7:01pm »
"The Companion Chronicles "talking books" are each narrated by one of the Doctor's companions and feature a second, guest-star voice along with music and sound effects." See, that is what Wikipedia says.
Oh, but some of these stories are based while on travels with the doctor. So there could easily be a Benton story somewhere.

I never believed he was really just sitting around selling used cars - it was obviously a front for his REAL job, which would have been far more adventurous.
Re: The Companion Chronicle « Result #30 Yesterday at 6:57pm »
The Companion Chronicle are just really stories based on well the Companions. Each story is about on one Companion and their point of view. Even if one story is based mostly on, lets say Yates, Jo Grant is also in it. From what I have read, the doctors have little to no role in the stories, maybe a mention, but nothing more.

Re: Eleven's look and personality « Result #33 Yesterday at 6:51pm »
Welcome, Mat!
I suppose that partly depends on whether the writers have thought that through as thoroughly - and I see a lot of influence from the core 'type' of actor they have - Hartnell was a bit of a control freak, Pertwee was into action and gadgets, Tom Baker was (and is) a bit quirky bohemian, Davison was by far Mr. Mellow over Action Man in his acting history and personality as well - so the question is what sort of personality and style has Mr. Smith shown so far? It may point the way a bit.
The Companion Chronicle « Result #35 Yesterday at 5:11pm »
Has anyone listen to these? I found a whole bunch of them and I do want to have a listen to do them. However, I have a large list of things to download and I am on a limit, so they are just going to have to wait. Though it has been something I have really wanted to listen to for a long while.
I do have one problem. Why does Yates has his own audio play but not Benton? Really? BBC HAS MADE BENTON AN OFFICIAL COMPANION, GIVE HIM HIS OWN AUDIO PLAY!
There will be 13 new stories coming out in 2010, i better see a Benton story.
Re: Eleven's look and personality « Result #37 Yesterday at 4:19pm »
I really think 11 in terms of personality is gonna be neurotic and not as emotional as 10. The reason I say that is because, if you look at all the series, the Doctor's personalities run in a certain kind of cycle. For example, 1 was a crusty old arrogant man who often didn't let his companions have the upper hand; then 2 was more mellow (sometimes), three was the "James Bondian, take charge type", and four was a little more Bohemian, five was more mellow, like two; then, six was more acidic like 1...so, with the 10th doctor being more congenial to his companions than nine was, I think 11 is going to be VERY closed off. Just my opinion.

Hello PhoenixWytch!
I too started with Nuwho, and then sort of went crazy and watched/listened/read everything I could get my greasy little paws on. Heh. Nine has that effect on me.
Welcome to the forum, and do feel free to jump in anywhere, resurrect dead threads, start new topics, chat in the c-box, etc. etc. We might all be stark raving mad, but the people here are nice. (just don't be surprised when things go way... way... off topic)

Welcome PhoenixWytch!
Most of us around here are sane, at least most of the time. I started watching with New Who, but have been catching up on classic Who. I love all the Doctors, in a slightly individualized way, but my favorites are Nine, Ten and Four.
Hello! I am PhoenixWytch AKA Jennifer. I am fairly new to Doctor Who, but fell in love with it with the first episode I watched. Since my first view of the Doctor and TARDIS, I have watched every episode I could get my hands on.
Re: The End of Time Part 1 and 2 « Result #44 on Dec 28, 2009, 8:53pm »
I'm trying to reserve my judgement until part 2. That said, there's a quotation from E M Forster that goes something like:
Quote:
'The King died and then the Queen died' is a story. 'The King died, and then the Queen died of grief' is a plot.
I beg leave to doubt that "Lucy Saxon tried to kill the Master, and then he became able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and throw lighting bolts" is either.
